Choosing Your Hotel
Picking the right hotel based on the reason for your stay
Few things are more disastrous to your trip than choosing the wrong place to stay. If you aren't familiar with the lay of the land in Long Beach, you might accidentally end up somewhere that doesn't suit your needs. The city does have many great places to stay - you just have to know how to pick 'em.
Sightseeing and Leisure Traveling in Long Beach
If you are headed to Long Beach to see The Queen Mary and the Aquarium of the Pacific, it's most efficient to stay Downtown. For your purposes, you can consider Downtown to be defined by 7th Street, Alamitos Avenue, the Pacific Ocean and the Los Angeles River. Staying in this vicinity keeps you close to Long Beach attractions, restaurants, theatres and nightlife. You also have the option of exploring the rest of the city and the shoreline by jumping on the Passport bus or AquaBus and AquaLink water taxis. Route information is available on Discovery Map or at lbtransit.com. If you'd rather avoid the hustle and bustle of Downtown, consider The Pacific Inn in Seal Beach for a quieter alternative. The Pacific Inn is less than one mile from Alamitos Bay, which is linked to Downtown via Passport Route A and the AquaLink water taxi.
Sightseeing and Leisure Traveling outside of Long Beach
Long Beach is driving distance from Hollywood, Disneyland and Knott's Berry Farm, plus beaches, mountains and deserts. The city is a great choice for travelers who want to explore the best of So Cal. If you expect to do a lot of driving out of the city during your stay, securing a room near the 710 or 405 freeway is your best bet. The Downtown area hotels along Ocean have quick access to I-710, while the airport area hotels, zip code 90815, are close to I-405. The Comfort Inn and Suites is close to I-405 as well as the Willow Blue Line station. Another option is the Ayres Hotel in Seal Beach, located on Seal Beach Boulevard just south of the I-405 and I-605 interchange.
Romantic Getaway
Special occasions call for special accommodations. Long Beach offers you a few different styles of romantic ambience, from the Art Deco decor of The Queen Mary Hotel to the distinctive comforts of the Beachrunners' Inn bed and breakfast. You might also consider the GuestHouse Hotel, which offers jacuzzi suites, and The Long Beach Coast Hotel, the city's only oceanfront resort property.
Sports Travel/Visiting Family and Friends
Long Beach sports destinations include Blair Field, the Pyramid at CSULB, Long Beach City College, Belmont Plaza Pool, Wilson High School and Long Beach Polytechnic High School. The city is almost constantly welcoming athletes, along with the friends and relatives who cheer them on. Even if you aren't an athlete or loyal fan, you may still be planning a more casual trip that doesn't require you to stay in the center of the action. In either case, there's no need to pay a premium for a Downtown hotel room. Centrally located, comfortable lodging that's safe and value-oriented generally fits the bill. Some properties to consider include the GuestHouse Hotel, Beachrunners' Inn, Comfort Inn, ExtendedStay and The Pacific Inn in Seal Beach.
